Myths And Rumors about VQF 1. You need a super-fast system to play them. If you've read the FAQ, you will know that you can play VQF's on any Pentium 90, but as long as you don't do much else. With a Pentium 100, you can listen to your favourite tune, and type up your report, without it being jumpy. Almost everyone out there has at least a Pentium, so don't worry about this. 2. How can the sound be better? On the MP3 player, it says it's CD quality or 44khz! Mp3's do a terrible job fo handling the treble detail. Try listeningto a MP3 that has lots of cymbal crashes, notice the swishy texture to it? The player may say 44khz, but that was the source, not the output. With a VQF encoded at 80kbps, there is barely any distortion, if any, and 96kbps files are almose perfect. That is one reason why VQF's are much better than MP3's. 3. MP3 and VQF files are the same size. VQF's are about 30 percent than an equal quality MP3. The commom comparison used is a 128kbps MP3 versus an 80kbps VQF, and the VQF is still slightly higher quality! 4. No Songs! Of course there aren't that many songs out there, th format has only been around for a couple of months. At the last count, there were about 1500 songs out there, which is nothing compared to MP3's, but if you have a fast internet connection (you people who have cable internet like myself) please keep the number of files at a steady increase by setting up a ftp, or even a 11 or 12 MB account and upload some files, and after you do, remember to list it here! 5. I Need 2 Players, one for my MP3's and another for my VQF's. That is one way to do it, but then you could get the new player called K-Jofol (see players section) which plays both. Of course it is still in beta stages, but it works fine, and most of the bugs have been fixed. 6. VQF is related to AAC VQF and AAC ire not really related, but they will combine both formats to create the new MP4 standard, in November of this year. The source code for it is allready available at VQF.com, but there are no songs out yet. |
